Bis vor 2 Jahren haben wir unsere Ostereier mit Kurkuma, Krapp und Blauholz gefärbt. Seitdem will unsere Apotheke den Krapp und das Blauholz nicht mehr rausrücken, mangels Lebensmittelzulassung. Wir hätten denen erzählen sollen dass wir T-Shirts färben wollen! Schade, denn das gab richtig knackig dunkle Eier. Sie wurden gleich in der Farbe gekocht. In den übrig bleibenden Farbsud habe ich dann hinterher oft ein Stück Stoff gesteckt.
So auch die Lochstickerei, die für das neueste Kleid verwendet wurde. Das Krapp macht ein schönes gedecktes Rosa, und ein bisschen wolkig ist es auch.
Den karierten Stoff habe ich ebenfalls selbst gefärbt, aber mit kommerzieller Batikfarbe. Mein Mann hatte nämlich Angst um sein schwarzweiß kariertes Hemd, weil ich den Stoff immer sehr gierig angeschaut habe, und überraschte mich zu Weihnachten mit einem ganzen Meter Baumwolle im selben Muster! 1m x 1,40 schwarzweiß ist ein bisschen viel. Deshalb wurde ein Stück davon dunkelrot überfärbt. Zufällig passt es ganz gut zum Krapp.
Until the year before last, we used natural colours for our Easter eggs: curcuma, dyer's madder and "Blauholz" - I didn't find a translation in the online dictionary, it's bark that gives a nice dark purple, like eggplants. But the pharmacy girls don't want to sell us the latter two any more, because they're not fit for foodstuff. We should have told them we want to dye T-shirts! Too late - and the eggs were so dark and beautiful... I cooked them in the dye, and into the remaining solution I usually put a piece of fabric, e.g. this piece of eyelet.
Madder gave a nice soft pink here, a little cloudy. I also dyed the checked cotton: my husband was worried for his black gingham shirt because he had seen my greedy looks (I often cut up used shirts for doll clothes), and so he gave me a full metre of a very similar black gingham cotton for Christmas! Yes he actually went into a fabric shop to get this! But 1m x 1,40 is too much, so a piece of it was dyed in commercial dark red batik colour. By chance it matches the eyelet.
Modesty freut sich, dass sie das Kleid vorführen darf. Der Schal ist einfach ein Streifen aus der Webkante, die Nadel bekam ich 2002, als ich die erste jagdliche Prüfung mit meinem damaligen Dackel führte (Erstführerbruch), Schuhe von Käthe Kruse. Ich sollte wirklich mehr in Schuhe investieren, die halbe Zeit habe ich keine farblich passenden!
Unterm Rock sind Shorts aus dem Karostoff.
Beide Stoffe sind in Wirklichkeit dunkler. Die Kamera und ich... seufz.
Modesty is happy to model the dress. The bodice is lined and closes in the back with buttons and buttonholes. The scarf is just a piece of the fabric selvedge. The little needle was given to me in 2002, when I first absolved a hunting trial with my Dachshund Dago (it's called Erstführerbruch).
Shoes are by Käthe Kruse. I really should spend more for shoes - I seldom have matching colours at hand! Underneath the skirt, there are shorts made from the checked cotton.
Both fabrics are darker in reality. My camera and me - sigh...
Wie man sieht habe ich die Kübelpflanzen rausgetragen. Ich hoffe es wird nicht mehr frieren!

I don't exactly love gathering puffed sleeves, I think it's fiddly - but I did it in the end and I think the result is okay.

Ich war gestern mit den Jungs auf einem Agilityturnier, Saisonstart, erster Lauf der SV-Bundesliga Süd. Unsere Ortsgruppe startet dort mit 2 Mannschaften. Archie ist in der ersten, Kuno in der zweiten. Was soll man sagen - der Kleine war besser als sein Onkel, und die Mannschaft 2 landete 6 Plätze vor der ersten!
Jeder der beiden brachte einen Pokal nach Hause. Was will man mehr? (Wobei, sehr beeindruckt sehen sie nicht aus.) Kuno links, Archie rechts.
Today it's DOG not DOLL:
I attended an agility competition yesterday, season's start, the first Bundesliga (south) meeting of the German Shepherd club. (They allow other races in the 5-dog-teams, as long as two German Shepherds are nominated in each). Our club participates this year with two equipes. Archie as the more experienced is in the first team, Kuno in the second. But what happened? The second team beat the first by 6 ranks, and our "baby" was better than his uncle!
Both won a cup and here they agree to show them. (They don't look impressed, do they?) Kuno left side, Archie right side.
Endlich mal wieder ein Mädchen - und noch dazu meine allererste neuere Götz!
Das Lustige ist, ich hab sie bei ABCeta Playthings gekauft, und die vertreiben ja eigentlich die Puppen und Kleidung der Konkurrenz. (Wenn man bei einer seit 30 Jahren geschlossenen Fabrik noch von Konkurrenz sprechen kann).
Sophia ist eine Götz Sofie. Sie sieht einer jungen Kollegin ähnlich, die auch Sophia heißt (und gerade mal 6 Monate jünger ist als mein Alex, da fühlt man sich alt). Sie brachte ihr komplettes Outfit samt Zubehör mit, ihre Röhre und eigenartigerweise weiße Socken, obwohl es im Sasha-Bestimmungsbuch doch heißt die Sofie wäre ohne.
Another girl at last - and on top of that, my very first Late Götz! The funny thing is, I bought her from ABCeta Playthings, who were rather known for selling stock from the competitor (if there's any competition left, 30 years after Trendon shut down).
Sophia is a Götz Sofie. She reminds me of a young colleague called Sophia (who is only 6 months older than my son, Alex, so I must be quite old). She brought her complete outfit and accessories, her tube and, to my surprise, white socks, though it says in the Serie Identification book that Sofie comes without socks.
Weil die Reise aus England nun mal eine Weile dauert, hatte ich ihr neues Outfit fertig. Mädchensachen!!! Sie meinte der blaue Overall wäre ja praktisch, aber nach 16 Jahren vielleicht doch ein bisschen langweilig.
The journey from England takes its time, so I had Sophia's outfit ready at her arrival. Girls stuff! She said the blue overalls were very functional, but also boring after 16 years.
Ich weiß nicht ob ihr Interesse am Salbei bedeutet dass sie gern gärtnert oder dass sie gern kocht. Da muss ich sie erst mal besser kennenlernen.
I down't know what her interest in my sage plant means: does she like gardening or cooking? There are things I'll have to learn about her.
Auf jeden Fall ist sie schwindelfrei! Hier steht sie ohne zu wackeln in meinem Blumenkasten. Ihre Gummis sind ein bisschen lose, aber sie steht sehr sicher und balanciert.
Jetzt aber rein und zu den anderen Kindern Sophia...

Heute habe ich keine Zeit, weil eine Gemeinschaftswanderung ansteht, aber die vergangenen Feiertage wurden genutzt.
Die Jungs haben sich beschwert weil sie ständig mit der selben Jacke an auf Fotos erscheinen müssen. Also bekamen sie einen neuen (gemeinschaftlichen) Blazer. Jason durfte ihn als erster im Wald anziehen.

The boys complained they all had to appear in outdoors photos wearing the same jackett. So I made them a new blazer (to share...) Jason was first to wear it in the forest.
Ich hatte etwas Bammel vor dem Wolltweed, weil ich noch nie welchen verarbeitet hatte. Aber er war nicht halb so störrisch wie befürchtet, er franste kaum, und das Ergebnis sieht schon ganz edel aus.
I was uneasy with the wool tweed, for it was the first time I worked with that material. But it was much less stubborn than I had thought, and it didn't fray much. And it looks and feels lovely.

sie hatten auch den Wolltweed oben.

Stoffbreiten nehmen, was für Puppenkleidung ziemlich viel sein kann, und
unter 30cm ist die Länge einfach zu knapp. Bei Ebay habe ich "Classic
Fabrics" in Canterbury entdeckt, dort gibt es Fat Quarters, und am
liebsten würde ich die ALLE nehmen (weil ich ja auch DRINGEND mehr
Stoffe brauche) - also kurz und gut, ich kaufte die 11 die mir am
allerbesten gefielen, darunter auch Satin Stripe, das objektiv
betrachtet nicht für Puppensachen geeignet ist.
I usually buy fabrics (when not working with used, found or vintage) at Esro Jersey, a nearby shop that exists for more than 40 years, and they're not restricted to jersey fabrics, I also got there the wool tweed above. But I need to take the whole width, and less than 30cm length is too scarce, so I always have pretty much for doll's clothes.
At Ebay I found Classic Fabrics in Canterbury, they ship to Germany and they sell Fat Quarters - so lovely I'd rather take them all (as if I was in need of more fabrics...) well I bought the 11 I liked most, one of them Satin Stripe, which doesn't really look suitable for Sasha's wardrobe.
Oder? Emerald führt die Latzhose vor, die daraus wurde, und ich finde sie hat was. Auf jeden Fall passt sie zu Emmes grünen Augen. Die Schuhe sind von einem Schuhmacher aus Pirmasens. Ein bisschen groß, aber gut mit handgestrickten Socken.
Or does it? I believe the farmpants modeled by Emerald are something special, and they go with her green eyes. Shoes are by a shoemaker from Pirmasens. They're a touch large but good with hand knitted socks.
Nein da wächst noch nicht viel - darin stehen demnächst wieder Küchenkräuter. Der Popcorneimer im Hintergrund lupft den Korb näher ans Licht, und sein Deckel dient auch als Untersetzer. So gewöhnt man sich an den Anblick.
No there still isn't growing much, but it will soon fill with kitchen herbs. The popcorn bucket in the background is for lifting the basket up to the light, and it doubles as pot saucer. So you get used to how it looks.

Und zu guter Letzt habe ich eingesehen dass mein Lieblings-T-Shirt nach etlichen Jahren auch zu löchrig wurde um darin zu pennen. Ich hab daher den Schnitt um das Stickmotiv herum gelegt - und Patrick hat endlich was Anständiges anzuziehen.
I had to realize that my favourite t shirt became, after years of wear, too shabby even to sleep in it. So I placed the pattern carefully around the embroidery - and now Patrick has something cool to wear.

Wir färben die Eier immer schon am Karfreitag, dann haben wir länger was davon, und wir färben immer VIELE Eier, es sind ja genug Abnehmer da, notfalls vierbeinige.
We usually paint our easter eggs on Good Friday, so we have more time to eat them up. We have MANY eggs, for there are enough who want them - some of them four-legged.

That alphabetic procession means "device to make a controlled cracking line in the eggshell": by lifting the metal ball and dropping it on the metal cap - which then sometimes gets stuck in the eggshell - so it really is a toy for boys...

Bei uns wohnen (natürlich) nicht nur Sashas. Im letzten Jahr habe ich auf der Rückreise von einem Verwandtenbesuch auf Usedom die Zwergnase-Werkstätten in Schalkau besucht. Das ist ein sehr gefährlicher Ort! Nur der Umstand dass sie dort kein Plastikgeld akzeptieren bewahrte mich vor größeren Dummheiten. Aber Mischa war Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Sie ist eine limitierte Sammleredition, und ich glaube zumindest was den Preis pro cm Höhe angeht ist sie die teuerste Puppe in meiner Sammlung.
Of course there are other dolls than Sashas in our household. Last year, on our way back from seeing relatives on the island Usedom, I visited the Zwergnase showrooms in Schalkau. That's a very dangerous place! They only accept cash, so I was safe from too stupid decisions.
Mischa was love at first sight. She's a limited edition from the artist line, and for all I know, she's the priciest doll I own - at least when you divide Euros per height.

Bina ist eine Zwergnase Junior, Vollvinyl, mit gemalten Augen und gerooteten Haaren. So sah sie aus als sie bei uns ankam. Mich störte der Haaransatz. Sie vermutlich auch, denn sie guckt schon äußerst finster...
Bina is a small Zwergnase junior, with painted eyes and rooted hair. That's how she looked when she arrived. I never liked her hairline. She didn't either, I guess, because what other reason did she have to look that grumpy on the photo?
Ich habe einfach Binas Frisur geändert. Der geflochtene Zopf verdeckt das schüttere Haar oben auf dem Kopf. Ich habe sie auch umgezogen.... Mischa wird ihr Originaloutfit aber behalten!
I restyled Bina's hair. The little braid hides the sparse hair. I also redressed her - but Mischa will keep her original outfit!
Nachdem die Fotos gestern so unscharf waren habe ich Patrick heute noch mal in unserem Vorgarten fotografiert. Ich denke mal eins davon ist wenigstens NUR überbelichtet...
