Donnerstags wollten wir zum Gugel-Turm wandern - aber die Gemeinde Herrischried hat anscheinend kein Interesse daran dass man den findet. Der Wanderweg war so scheiße bis gar nicht ausgeschildert, dass wir schließlich aufgaben und nach Todtmoos weiter fuhren.
On Thursday we planned to hike to the tower "Gugel" - but the town of Herrischried obviously don't mind if tourists find it. There was pretty bad marking, or none at all. So we gave up and drove on to Todtmoos.
Todtmoos ist klein aber hübsch. Wir haben sehr gut zu Mittag gegessen (asiatisch).
Todtmoos is small, but lovely. We had very good Asian food for lunch.

Später, Verdauungsspaziergang im Wald. An den Ringen kann man das Alter des Baums abzählen. Ich glaub, er war einfach SEHR alt!

Am Mittwoch Morgen sind wir zur Mettma-Talsperre gewandert, durch ein wunderschönes Tal, und wir hatten den Weg praktisch für uns allein.
On Wednesday morning we hiked to the Mettma reservoir, through a beautiful valley, on a path we had almost on our own.
An der Staumauer stand, dies sei kein Wanderweg, aber wir sind trotzdem darüber gelaufen, sonst hätten wir den selben Weg zurück laufen müssen. Langweilig!
There was a sign at the barrage saying it was no hiking path, but we walked it anyway - else it would have been same way back - boring!

Die Mettma ist ein ganz kleiner Bach. Dafür bringt sie einen beeindruckenden Stausee zuwege.

Nachmittags waren wir in St. Blasien. Das ist ein kleiner Ort mit einem sehr großen Dom.
In the afternoon we visited St Blasien. It's a small town with a large cathedral.
Kunst im Park, im Hintergrund die "Einkaufsmeile". Dort gab es ein sehr gutes Eiscafe.

Auf dem Platz vor dem Dom war ein Bildhauer-Symposion. Lauter Leute die mit Stihl-Sägen interessante Dinge aus Holz arbeiteten.
On the square next to the cathedral a sculpotor's symposium was held. Many folks cutting art from wood with Stihl saws.
Von diesem Platz aus kann Candy das gut beobachten.

Der lose Kopf auf der Wiese erinnert an den Hl. Blasius, nach dem der Dom benannt ist.

Am Dienstag Vormittag waren wir in Tiengen. Das ist eine nette kleine Stadt mit einer winzigen Fußgängerzone, einigen mittelalterlichen Mauern, aber immerhin auch mit einem Schloss!
On Tuesday morning we visited Tiengen. It's a nice little town with a tiny pedestrian zone and some medieval walls, but there also is a castle!
Im Schloss ist ein Museum. Das haben wir uns allerdings nicht angesehen.

Dafür waren wir im Park, der praktischerweise auf dem Dach der Tiefgarage ist, in der wir parkten.
Instead we walked through the park. It's on top of the garage where we left our car, very practical.
Es war sehr heiß. Candy sucht vergeblich ein bisschen Schatten beim Beet.

Nachmittags sind wir zu dem (sehr kleinen) Wasserfall bei Indlekofen gelaufen. Auf dem Schild stand "Gefährlicher Weg", aber wir waren mutig und es hat sich gelohnt. Schatten! Kühl!
Later we hiked to the (very small) waterfall near Indlekofen. There was a sign saying "Dangerous path", but we were courageous, and it paid. Shadow! A cool patch!

Das Wasser ist sehr klar - so sehr dass man es auf dem Foto gar nicht richtig sieht.

In Höchenschwand war ansonsten überhaupt nichts los.

Diese beiden waren die muntersten Gestalten, die wir im Freien angetroffen haben.
These two were the most alert folks we met outside.

Am Montag ging es in die Schweiz. Schaffhausen liegt nur rund 20km von Stühlingen entfernt. Wir waren beide schon am Rheinfall gewesen, aber vor Jahren und getrennt (also vor VIELEN Jahren!)
On Monday we paid a short visit to Switzerland. Schaffhausen is only about 20km from Stühlingen. We both had seen the waterfall previously, but years ago and with our separate families (meaning, MANY years ago!)
Ich nehme mal an hier hat sich in den Jahren nicht viel verändert - wenn ich auch nicht mehr wusste dass man im Hintergrund die hässlichen Wohnblocks sieht. (Was ging hab ich vom Foto abgeschnitten.)
I don't think the waterfall changed much in the meantime, though I didn't remember the ugly buildings on the left ruining the view. (I cut most of them out of the pic.)
Es war ein bedeckter Morgen, und wir fuhren nicht mit dem Schiff, denn dazu hätten wir unsere Regenjacken gebraucht - und die waren im Auto.
It was an overcast morning. We didn't take a boat, for we had left our raincoats in the car - and we had needed them!

Aber nur kurz. Ansonsten hatten wir den ganzen Urlaub trockenes Wetter, an manchen Tagen fast zu warm für mich.

But only for a very short time. Apart from that, it was dry during our holidays. Some days were much too warm for my taste.

Die Panoramastraße verdient ihren Namen - da muss man am Steuer schon aufpassen dass man nicht zu abgelenkt ist, denn außer spektakulärer Aussicht hat sie auch interessante Kurven zu bieten. Leider war es zu diesig um bis in die Alpen zu schauen - aber man kann nicht alles haben!

The road deserves its name. You have to be careful at the wheel, for there are interesting curves as well as lovely views. It was too hazy to see the Alps - but you can't have it all.
Letzten Sonntag ging es endlich los! 6 Tage Urlaub, das muss reichen - wir waren ja auch im Frühsommer schon mal unterwegs. Wir haben uns für Stühlingen entschieden, weil das nicht so weit zu fahren ist und weil man im Südschwarzwald eine Menge erleben kann.
Last Sunday we started at last! 6 days must be enough for a holiday - we had been away already at the beginning of summer. We decided to go to Stühlingen, close to the Swiss border, for it's not too far to drive, and there's a lot you can do in Southern Black Forest.
Das neue Sommerkleid ist gerade noch rechtzeitig fertig geworden. (Ich glaub JEDER kann sehen dass es aus dem 3-Anns-Buch ist...) Candy sitzt im Gepäck und ist sehr aufgeregt.
The new summer dress was finished just in time. (I think anyone can see it's from a pattern in the 3-Anns-book). Candy, sitting in the luggage, is very excited.
Angekommen, der Wohnwagen steht - nach der Fahrt muss Candy sich erst mal ausruhen.

Das separate Wohnzimmer in unserem grünen Popup-Zelt. Ohne diese zusätzlichen 5qm wäre es schon verdammt eng im Caravan...

Unser Stellplatz. Liegt dieser Camping nicht wundervoll, zwischen Wald und Wutach? Es war ein ganz kleiner, übersichtlicher Platz ohne Firlefanz, urig und gemütlich. Und zum Einkaufen waren es nicht mal 5 min zu Fuß - ab halb acht frische Brötchen UND die erste Hunderunde erledigt.
Urlaub kann losgehen...
This was our place. Isn't that camp site situated beautifully, between a forest and the little river Wutach? It's a small no frills camp ground, rustic and homely.
And less than 5 minutes walk to a supermarket selling fresh rolls at 7:30 in the morning - first doggie walk included...
Holidays can begin!
Morgen geht es los - wir fahren für eine knappe Woche zum Campen in den Schwarzwald. Nur die Alten - unsere Kinder hüten das Haus.
Tomorrow, we'll start for almost a week of camping in the Black Forest. Just the oldies - our kids will guard the house.
Nur wir zwei und die Dackel, das ist schon cool - aber ganz ohne Sasha geht es nicht. Wer soll sonst den Mittelpunkt der Fotos bilden?
Candy ist die Glückliche. Sie hat schon mal den Hut gegen die Sonne aufgesetzt. Jetzt wartet sie vorm Kleiderschrank und überlegt was sie mitnehmen soll.

Candy is the lucky winner. She already put on a hat against the sun. Now she's waiting in front of the wardrobe, trying to decide which clothes to take with her.
Gestern war es abscheulich heiß, bis zu 34°! Deshalb machten wir uns sehr früh auf den Weg nach Bad Mergentheim. Die Stadt hat einen schönen Kurpark zu bieten, und ein interessantes Museum im Deutschordensschloss, mit einer Puppenstubenausstellung. Dort durfte man leider nicht fotografieren.
Yesterday was a scorcher, up to 34°. So we started very early to Bad Mergentheim. The town has a lovely park, and an interesting museum in the Deutschorden palace, with a doll house exhibition. Sadly, it's not allowed to take photos inside.
Abby findet, dass man es neben dem Springbrunnen noch am besten aushält. Aber nicht rein springen!

Im Park sind zum Glück hohe Bäume, und es gibt genug Schatten.
Luckily, there are large trees in the park, with plenty of shadow.
So viele Begonien! Ich mag diese Blumen nicht, sehen nach Friedhof aus, aber das Beet ist trotzdem sehr hübsch. Die Buchsbäume hinten formen Willkommen in Bad Mergentheim.
So many begonias! I don't care for these flowers, too many of them in cemeteries, but the flowerbed is beautiful anyway. The box letters in the background say Welcome to Bad Mergentheim.
Idiotischerweise hat die Trinkhalle von 9:00 bis 15:30 zu - genau dann wenn man denken würde dass sie offen ist. So konnten wir das Wasser nicht probieren. Das Bild zeigt den Pavillon daneben.
For reasons unknown, the drinking hall is closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - just when everyone would expect it to be open. So we couldn't try the water. The pic shows the pavilion next to the hall.

Zumindest früher war in diesem Flügel des Schlosses das Finanzamt untergebracht. Ich habe nicht nachgesehen, ob das immer noch so ist. Was für ein schöner Arbeitsplatz!
In that wing of the palace, the tax office used to be. I didn't check if it still is. But what a great place to work at!
Mittags waren wir in einer Pizzeria beim Bahnhof. Der Biergarten liegt zwischen den Gleisen und einer befahrenen Straße, aber man sitzt trotzdem sehr gut, und die Preise waren mehr als anständig.
For lunch we chose a pizzeria next to the station. The pub garden is between the rails and a much used road, but it still is very nice, and the prices were moderate.
