Quernstkapelle / Quernst Chapel

Das Ziel unserer Wanderung, die Quernstkapelle, ist eine kleine Kirche mitten im Wald.

Our destination, the Quernst chapel, is a small church in the middle of the forest.

Es ging die ganze Zeit bergauf! Wie anstrengend.

We had to walk uphill all the way! How tiring.

Die Kapelle sieht ein bisschen aus als wäre sie ursprünglich in H0 geplant worden.

The chapel looks almost as if it had been planned in H0 scale originally.

Vor der Besichtigung ein wenig ausruhen....

Davy komm!
Ja, ja - es geht schon wieder bergauf.

Yeah, yeah - uphill again.

Oben ist aber dieser interessante Aussichtspunkt. Auf dem Metallschild steht welche Orte man von hier aus sehen kann.

But on the hilltop is this interesting viewing point. The metal sign tells which places you can see from here.

Innen ist die Quernstkapelle eher schlicht. Aber die Glasfenster machen interessantes Licht.

The inside of the Quernst chapel is quite austere. But the glass windows give interesting light effects.

Davor in der Sonne liegen ist lustiger....

To get some sun is more fun.....

Im Wald / In the forest

Natürlich hat Davy nicht  das ganze verlängerte Wochenende im Wintergarten verbracht. Wir sind auch durch den nahe gelegenen Kellerwald gewandert.

Of course, Davy didn't spend a whole long weekend in the conservatory. We also went hiking in the nearby Kellerwald.

 
Der Kellerwald ist ein eher kleiner Nationalpark. Gleichzeitig ist er aber einer der größten zusammenhängenden Buchenwälder in Europa.

The Kellerwald is a small National Park. At the same time, it's one of the largest remaining beech forests in Europe.

Zur Zeit blüht dort der Rote Fingerhut. Giftig - aber schön.

It's flowering time for the foxglove. Poisonous - but pretty.

Weil es ein Nationalpark ist, bleiben Baumstämme liegen wo sie fallen. Nur die Wanderwege werden frei gesägt.

As this is National Park, fallen trees are left where they fell. Only the hiking paths are sawed free.

Sehr praktisch um hochzuklettern und einen Überblick zu bekommen!

Very handy to climb them and get an overview. 

Dort vorn sehe ich mehr Fingerhüte. Eigentlich wachsen sie hier überall.

I can spy more foxgloves there. They seem to grow everywhere here.

Ein schöner schattiger Platz für eine Pause.

A nice shady place for a rest.

Und eine Lichtung mit Aussicht. Noch mehr Fingerhut! Leider ist die Aussicht nicht nur schön.

And a clearing with a view. Even more foxgloves! It's sad the view is not pretty everywhere.

Wegen der Trockenheit der letzten Jahre sterben hier die Fichten ab. Nur ein paar von ihnen überleben. Ein Ranger hat uns neulich gesagt, dass keiner weiß was an diesen Bäumen anders ist. Sie sehen genau so aus - nur dass sie leben.

Due to last years' droughts the fir trees are dying. Only a few of them survive. A ranger told us lately, no one knows what's different about those trees. They look just like all the others - only, they live.

The dachshunds ask when will we move on?

Im Wintergarten / In the conservatory

Davy ist zum ersten Mal im Zwergenhaus und bewundert die Kakteensammlung.
Im Wintergarten wird es sommers sehr heiß. Das scheint den Pflanzen zu gefallen.

For the first time, Davy visits the GnomeHome. He admires the cacti collection.
The conservatory gets very hot in summer. The plants seem to like that.

Dieser hier ist riesig!
Er ist sehr alt - er stand viele Jahre in Papas Büro. Jetzt, nach der Pensionierung, durfte er umziehen. Und ist tüchtig gewachsen.

This one is a giant!
It's very old - for many years it stood in Daddy's office. Now, after retirement, we moved it. Now it grows heartily.

Soll er so schief sein?
Wir haben ihn schon gedreht, damit er sich aufrichtet. Bis jetzt ist er von diesem Konzept nicht überzeugt.

Is it meant to stand askew like this?
We already turned it to make it straighten. But yet, it's not convinced of that idea.

Und dieser will blühen!
Das tut er oft - nur immer während wir nicht hier sind. Bis jetzt haben wir ihn erst einmal dabei erwischt. Er hat schöne große gelbe Blüten, er müsste nicht schüchtern sein.

This one is going to flower!
It frequently does - but always in our absence. We only once caught it in bloom yet. It has pretty large yellow flowers, so it needn't be shy.

Dieser ist auf älteren Fotos auch kleiner!
Auch die Madagaskarpalme wächst erst, seit sie hier ist, dabei hatte ich sie davor über 10 Jahre lang. Licht und Wärme macht einen Unterschied. Leider ist beim anderen Haus kein Platz für einen Wintergarten.
Schade....

This one is much smaller on older photo, too!
The Pachypodium started growing when we moved it here, though I've had it for more than 10 years. Light and heat make all the difference! Sadly, there's no room for a conservatory at the other house.
A shame....

Kirschen / Cherries

Orlando soll ein neues Hemd im Raglansschnitt vorführen, aber er ist zu aufgeregt.

Orlando was meant to model a new raglan cut shirt, but he is too upset.

Mami! Mami! Schau nur!  /  Mummy! Mummy! Just look!

Da oben!   /   Up there!

So viele Kirschen! Da muss ich hin!  /  So many cherries! I must get there!

Ich kletterte einfach an dem rosenlosen Rosenbogen hoch.

I'll just climb the roseless rose arch.
 

Oh (zensiert).....  /  Oh (censored).....

Ich komm nicht dran!   /   I can't reach them!

Ganz ruhig bleiben - erstens sind sie noch nicht ganz reif, und zweitens sind es saure.

Keep cool - first, they are not really ripe yet, and second, they are sour cherries.

Daraus machen wir dann Marmelade. In dieser hier sind die ersten, gemischt mit Himbeeren.

We'll cook jam from them. In this jar, the first of them are mixed with raspberries. 

Ein neuer Schnitt / A new pattern

Ich habe mal was anderes ausprobiert: Ein Rundpassenkleid, nach Venus Dodges Buch Puppenkleider selber machen.

I've tried out something new: a dress with a round yoke, from The Dolls Dressmaker by Venus Dodge.

Scarlett führt es vor. Auf dem Pflanztisch!

Scarlett is modelling it. On the worktable!

Es ist etwas fummelig zu nähen. Aber Scarlett findet es schön locker und luftig.

To sew it was a little fiddly. But Scarlett thinks it's nicely loose and cool.

Jetzt hat sie etwas entdeckt.
Mami?

Now she spotted something.
Mummy?

Was liegt da auf unserer Terrasse im Weg?
Tja, das sind übrige Dachziegel vom Dachdecken im Frühjahr. Irgendwann können wir die sicher brauchen - jetzt gerade würden wir einen Platz für sie brauchen... aber der Garten ist halt sehr klein.

What's this getting in the way on the deck?
Well, they are spare tiles from replacing our roof in spring. We'll need them one day - what we need now is a suitable place for them... but the garden is tiny.

Aber ich kann die brauchen! Zum Draufklettern!

Now, I can use them! To climb them!

Gut genug / Good enough

Die Wenarsky-Schwestern finden, dass Annie manchmal ein bisschen eigen ist.

Wir sind mit Jasons Vorschlägen einverstanden! Es kommt nicht auf den Ort an, sondern auf die Kleider.
Deshalb hat Mayla sich aufgebrezelt. Sie trägt unser aufwendigstes Kleid. Das ist nicht von Mami, sondern von Shellys Second-Hand-Seite. Hope brachte ja schon ein romantisches Kleid mit.


The Wenarsky sisters feel Annie can sometimes be a little peculiar.

We agree with Jason's suggestions! It's not the location that matters but the dress.
That's why Mayla dressed up. She chose our most elaborate dress. It's not Mummy made, but from Shelly's second hand page. Hope already brought a romantic dress with her.

Aber das Licht auf dem Tisch ist schon ein Problem!

But the light on that table certainly causes problems!

Hier auf dem Pflanztisch ist es besser. Nur das Fenster im Hintergrund könnte hübscher sein, und es spiegelt komisch.

Here on the worktable, it's better. But the window in the background could be prettier, and its reflections look funny.

Schauen wir uns mal die Zucchinipflanze an.

Let's give the zucchini plant a try.

Jedenfalls haben wir ein Dach überm Kopf!

Well at least there's a roof above our heads!
