On the bank holiday celebrating German Unitiy, we drove along to see some sights.
Das hier ist die Aachquelle. Ganz schön groß für eine Quelle! Das kommt daher, dass es sich teilweise um Sickerwasser aus der Donau handelt. Die Aach mündet aber in den Rhein. Also fließt im Rhein immer auch ein bisschen Donauwasser! Das hatten wir nicht gewusst.
This is the Aach well. It's pretty large! That's because some of the water comes from the river Danube. The Aach later joins the Rhine. So, there always is some Danube water in the Rhine! We didn't know that before.
In diesem Naturschutzgebiet wurden Siedlungsspuren aus der Steinzeit gefunden.
This natural reserve also is an archaeological site: some stone age dwellings were found here.

In dieser Höhle haben vermutlich während der Steinzeit Menschen gelebt. Da finde ich Häuser doch viel komfortabler.

During stone age, some humans probably lived in this cage. I think a house is much more comfy!

What an interesting place to visit, I am guessing that the ancient settlers used the cave as well as their man made dwellings. You're very brave facing a real lion.
AntwortenLöschenThe info sign said that the place was only used during hunting season: the valley is very narrow, so the men built barricades to fence the game in for easier killing. When hunting was over, the clan moved somewhere warmer - it must have been a chilly place even back in stone age.
LöschenThe poor lion was shot by a hapless neighbour of the hotel owners many years ago, the man later died and his heirs had no use for the stuffed animal, so it was sold cheaply, spent some years in a shed, until it came to new glory in the staircase. We were very surprised when we encountered it on our first evening!
