Tannheimer Tal

On Thursday it was real hot, more than 30°. So we left the hiking to our air-conditioned car. We drove to the Tannheimer Tal, situated in Austria, and walked from the little village Tannheim to the Vilsalpsee. The path is nice and plane, and most of it runs through a forest, so there's a lot of shadow. My poor husband got sunburned anyway.

The beautiful lake marks the end of the valley. We were lucky to find a shady place in the open-air pub.

Harley is not likely to get sunburned - she is nicely tanned. The dress was chosen to match the flowering meadows.

Vom Zaun aus sieht man viel mehr.

There's a much better view from the fence.

Und noch eine Pose für die Kamera...

keine Waldgrotte / no forest grotto

On Wednesday we planned a hiking tour to the "forest grotto", a pilgrimage chapel in the forest near Rieggis. Unfortunately our guide book was a little unspecific on its whereabouts, the signs stopped after a while, and on the map, there were much less paths than in reality.

Und so wanderten wir....

So we hiked....

... and hiked - it was a beautiful tour, with nice views and some shadow in the forest, but we never found the grotto.

But since it got hotter that day, we were relieved to be back at our car after a while. Here Notso has climbed the bank we had a rest on, to admire a large fern.

On Tuesday, we rode on the Hörnerbahn Bolsterlang - only uphill, we hiked the way down. The dachshunds were happy about this, not only for the exercise, but also because they worried the cable car might not be safe.

One of the cars is just visible above Harley. The tram is very modern and looks not at all dangerous, at least to the non-dachshunds.

Gigantische Wurzeln!

This tree worked real hard not to slide down the slope. Enormous roots!

Harley was pleased she only had to hike downhill. But after a while, this strains your calves!

The cows can't have been here or they would have eaten this.

For a week, we were at the beautifully sited Insel Campground at the Niedersonthofener See in Southern Bavaria. On the pic it looks like an island (hence the name) but it isn't really.

Zwei Sashas waren dabei.

The mountains are visible from there, but it still is flat. Ideal for us!

Two Sashas were with us. Not easy to decide who were the lucky ones!

We arrived on Sunday. Our Monday tour was the Werdensteiner Moor, a swamp with a hiking path and information tables.

All along our way, frogs and toads jumped into the water. They didn't expect visitors, because it was one week before summer holidays started.

Notso was very impressed.

An einer Stelle gibt es einen Aussichtsturm. Hier ist Notso ins Gebälk geklettert.

There's a watchtower you can climb. Notso climbed into its railing as well.

That's what he could see from there. Even more amphibians!

Ladenburg 2

Ladenburg does not only have its park and fancy garages. There also is the Ladenburger Spielzeugauktion, specialized in antique toys. Twice a year they auction off precious items as French bisque dolls, early Käthe Kruse, doll houses.. On two other occasions there are items that match my price range, so that's when I drive there.
They don't offer Sashas very often. But last week there were even two for us!

They stand on the stairs leading to the water tower. On the right is Jenny, who moved in with me. A redhead girl at last!  The pretty brunette, yet unnamed, lives with my mum now.

Jenny was reluctant to pose for photos, with the unruly hair and wearing a track suit, but in the end she was so kind.

Her older brunette friend in a dress that's way too large for her. My mum made one for her that fits!

The hair wasn't as bad as it looked, it didn't even need a wash. Some brushing with a Tangle Teezer was all that was necessary.
As I found Jenny's printed eyes very flat, I highlighted them a little.

Ladenburg 1

Last Saturday, Charlie was taken to Ladenburg, a small town between Heidelberg and Mannheim, and known for good quality asparagus.

They had the state garden exhibition some years ago, and a nice park remained from that event.

Blick auf den Neckar / View over the river Neckar

But what's this interesting building in the middle of the park?

Looks like a ruined castle, only slightly on the small side.

Watcher of the castle...
That's not a castle, Charlie, it's Carl Benz's garage - or what is left of it.

Drat, it's closed!
There are no more cars inside, I believe.

Baby

Baby was my very first Sasha. I had seen the dolls in Venus Dodge's pattern book and wanted to have one, the baby was cheaper than the "older" dolls, so I won one at the Ladenburger Spielzeugauktion, and for several years none other followed. Then I found Milo, and next came many sisters and brothers, but no other baby.

Sometimes Baby feels a little lonely, when she can't join in her older siblings' games.

Susi, du verstehst mich! Du und Kennedy der Teddy.

Susi, you know how I feel, you and Teddy Kennedy.

But what's this box on the sofa? Who's talking inside, and what does he say? For us others it only is baby talk, but Mousey understands: "Is it safe?"

"Yes", Mousey says.

Ooops - that's pretty high when you are a baby.

Geh aus dem Weg Mausi - aaahhh!

Get out of the way, Mousey - aaargh!

Geschafft!

Done it! But there's still a long way to go, ahm, crawl.

Danger... Don't look at the monster in the shadow, Mousey, so he can't see you.

Haaaalllooo! Ihr da oben! Hier ist Mikey! Hört ihr mich?

Heeelllooo! You up there! This is Mikey calling! Can you hear me?

To the others, this only was baby talk, but Baby is alerted. Who's there?

Mikey is lifted onto the shelf - such a happy union!

He and Baby have a lot to tell each other. Pity whe others don't understand their baby talk...

Harley & Davy

I'm so behind with my blog - but there's such a lot going on!

Last week one parcel brought two Sashas, a very lucky "ONO" Ebay find.

Harley (who would have guessed?) is a LE Harlequin, bringing her guitar but minus the straw hat. Doesn't matter, her original outfit was stored away quickly. Davy is a Gregor London, described as "slightly falling hair" and "might need a restring".

Harley was lucky: her new outfit was waiting for her. I'm pleased with the little working breast pocket.

Weeding the patio? What's that? This is about light effects in the hair.

Oh, alles für mediterrane Küche! / All there for mediterranean cooking.

Im Hochbeet tut sich was. / Something's growing in the raised flowerbed

For Davy, I only managed new shorts (but with a cute dolphin print!), he had to borrow a t shirt. His hair looks much better than expected, no empty plugs, no visible shedding.

Bat, dolphins, jungle - must be a zoo.

Von wegen neue Gummis! Winken geht tadellos.

What's that about restringing? Look at me waving!
