Orlando soll ein neues Hemd im Raglansschnitt vorführen, aber er ist zu aufgeregt.

Orlando was meant to model a new raglan cut shirt, but he is too upset.

Ich kletterte einfach an dem rosenlosen Rosenbogen hoch.

Ich komm nicht dran!   /   I can't reach them!

Ganz ruhig bleiben - erstens sind sie noch nicht ganz reif, und zweitens sind es saure.

Keep cool - first, they are not really ripe yet, and second, they are sour cherries.

Daraus machen wir dann Marmelade. In dieser hier sind die ersten, gemischt mit Himbeeren.

We'll cook jam from them. In this jar, the first of them are mixed with raspberries. 

Ein neuer Schnitt / A new pattern

Ich habe mal was anderes ausprobiert: Ein Rundpassenkleid, nach Venus Dodges Buch Puppenkleider selber machen.

I've tried out something new: a dress with a round yoke, from The Dolls Dressmaker by Venus Dodge.

Scarlett führt es vor. Auf dem Pflanztisch!

Scarlett is modelling it. On the worktable!

Es ist etwas fummelig zu nähen. Aber Scarlett findet es schön locker und luftig.

To sew it was a little fiddly. But Scarlett thinks it's nicely loose and cool.

Jetzt hat sie etwas entdeckt.

Was liegt da auf unserer Terrasse im Weg?
Tja, das sind übrige Dachziegel vom Dachdecken im Frühjahr. Irgendwann können wir die sicher brauchen - jetzt gerade würden wir einen Platz für sie brauchen... aber der Garten ist halt sehr klein.

What's this getting in the way on the deck?
Well, they are spare tiles from replacing our roof in spring. We'll need them one day - what we need now is a suitable place for them... but the garden is tiny.

Aber ich kann die brauchen! Zum Draufklettern!

Gut genug / Good enough

Die Wenarsky-Schwestern finden, dass Annie manchmal ein bisschen eigen ist.

Wir sind mit Jasons Vorschlägen einverstanden! Es kommt nicht auf den Ort an, sondern auf die Kleider.
Deshalb hat Mayla sich aufgebrezelt. Sie trägt unser aufwendigstes Kleid. Das ist nicht von Mami, sondern von Shellys Second-Hand-Seite. Hope brachte ja schon ein romantisches Kleid mit.


The Wenarsky sisters feel Annie can sometimes be a little peculiar.

We agree with Jason's suggestions! It's not the location that matters but the dress.
That's why Mayla dressed up. She chose our most elaborate dress. It's not Mummy made, but from Shelly's second hand page. Hope already brought a romantic dress with her.

Hier auf dem Pflanztisch ist es besser. Nur das Fenster im Hintergrund könnte hübscher sein, und es spiegelt komisch.

Here on the worktable, it's better. But the window in the background could be prettier, and its reflections look funny.

Leider war Annie von Jasons hilfreichen Vorschlägen nicht überzeugt. Sie quengelte so lange, bis sie sich selbst auf die Suche machen durfte. Sie wollte sogar zum Einkaufen mitkommen.
Und dort....

Sadly, Jason couldn't convince Annie of his helpful suggestions. She kept nagging until she was allowed to look for the right place herself. She even wanted to come grocery shopping.

Ich habe endlich ein Kleid fertig, das monatelang darauf warten musste - es war ziemlich viel von Hand zu tun. Annie soll es modeln. 
Weil es ein Kleid mit Rüschen und Spitzen ist, wünscht Annie sich romantische Fotos. Aber wo finde ich einen romantischen Ort für den Fotoshoot?


At last, after many months, I finished a dress I had begun - there was quite a lot of sewing by hand to do. Now Annie was chosen to model it.
Since it's a frilly dress, with lace details, Annie wants romantic photos. But where to find a romantic place for the photo shoot?

Annie findet, dass die Minze zu gerupft aussieht, und der Kübel hat die falsche Farbe.

OK und der Pflanztisch ist echt nicht sehr aufgeräumt.....

Nie mehr kalte Füße / No more cold feet

Ich habe im Zwergenhaus keine Nähmaschine, aber ich war trotzdem fleißig: die Sashas brauchten sehr dringend neue Socken! Also habe ich abends vorm Fernseher welche von Hand genäht, aus T-Shirts, Strümpfen und Damen-Unterwäsche.
Die Dame an der Kasse vom kik guckte sehr komisch als ich eine Unterhose in 3XL bezahlen wollte. Mir passte die nicht, aber sie ergab 6 Paar Lochmuster-Strümpfe!

I don't have a sewing machine at the GnomeHome, but I was busy anyway: the Sashas urgently needed new socks! So in the evenings, while watching TV, I sewed them by hand, from socks, t shirts and ladies underwear.
The girl at the cheap store counter gave me a funny look when I paid for a pair of panties in 3XL. They didn't fit me - but I got 6 pairs of eyelet socks from them!

Insgesamt hab ich 30 Paar neue Socken mitgebracht. Hurra! Wer jetzt umgezogen wird, bekommt SCHÖNE und PASSENDE Strümpfe....

So I brought home 30 pairs of new socks. Hooray! Whoever gets changed now can have PRETTY and MATCHING socks....

Insektenfreundlich / Insect friendly

Greta sieht sich oben bei den Gartenhäuschen um.

Was hat Papa da gemacht? Es sieht aus wie ein Briefkasten.

Letztes Mal entdeckten wir am Abreisetag, dass sich ein Brett gelöst hatte. Jetzt wollte Papa das reparieren - aber in den 2 Wochen haben die Wespen ein Nest in der Hütte gebaut!
Deshalb hat er jetzt einen Spalt für sie offen gelassen, mit einem Dach, damit es nicht hinein regnet.

Last time, at the day of our departure we noticed a plank had loosened. Now Daddy wanted to repair it - but the wasps were busy for 2 weeks building a nest inside the shed!
So, he left a gap for them and made a little roof to keep rain off.

Ooooh - das müssen ganz besondere Wespen sein.

Wir wollten uns einfach nicht, wenn wir das nächste Mal den Rasenmäher brauchen, einem wütenden eingesperrten Wespenschwarm gegenüber sehen.



Ooooh - they have to be very special wasps!

We just didn't want to face an angry swarm locked in, next time we need the lawn mower.
 

Versteh ich. Dann stelle ich den Liegestuhl in sicherer Entfernung auf!

I understand. So, I'll set up my deck chair at a safe distance!

Eigenartige Bewohner / Strange inhabitants

Nachdem Greta sich gestern einen Überblick über die Flora verschafft hat, wendet sie sich heute der Bevölkerung zu.

Yesterday, Greta learned about the flora. Now she turns towards the population.

Wer bist du denn?    /     Karl - ich bin ein Zwerg.


Now, who are you?       /  Karl - I'm a gnome. 

Ein Zwerg? Aber er ist fast so groß wie ich!
Naja er trägt natürlich eine besonders spitze Mütze.....

A gnome? But he's almost as tall as me!
Well, but he is wearing a particularly pointy hat.....

Dieser Zwerg sieht nicht so freundlich aus. Auf dem Schild zu seinen Füßen steht Gnomeland Security.
Du kommst hier nicht rein, sagt er.

This gnome doesn't look too friendly. There's a sign at his feet saying Gnomeland Security.
I can't let you in, he says. 

Was bewacht er denn Wertvolles? Oh - den Geräteschuppen.

So, which values does he guard? Oh - it's the tools shed.

Dieser Zwerg hier wirkt aber sehr nett. Und Mami kann die Kamera nicht gerade halten....

But this gnome looks very nice. And Mummy is unable to hold the camera straight....

Sind das Zwergtomaten? Die Pflanzen sind viel kleiner als die im Hochbeet beim anderen Haus.
Nein, sie kriegen nur zu wenig Wasser. Es hat am Zwergenhaus seit Anfang April fast gar nicht mehr geregnet.


Are these gnome tomatoes? The plants are much smaller than those in the raised bed at the other house.
No, they only get too little water. At the GnomeHome, it didn't rain properly since the beginning of April.

Nach so vielen Zwergen braucht ein Mädchen eine Pause!

In der Wildnis / In the wilderness

Greta hat es nach draußen geschafft! Sie erkundet als erstes den Urwald beim Haus. Was da alles wächst!

Greta made it into the great wide open! First, she explores the jungle next to the house. It's sprouting and growing!

Das ist nicht etwa ein Beet. Das ist ein Teil unserer Terrasse.
Aber das kann ich doch nicht weg mähen? Und wir haben noch genug Platz für ein paar Gartenmöbel....

This is not a flower bed. It's part of our deck.
But I can't possibly mow these beauties? And there is room enough left for some garden furniture....

Etwas weiter findet Greta ein ulkiges Gebäude.
Das ist doch viel zu klein? Sogar für mich?
Das ist kein Haus - das wird ein Lehmofen. Aber unser Großer wurde mit seinem Projekt nicht ganz fertig.

Zurück im Zwergenhaus / Back at the GnomeHome

Im Frühjahr durften wir wochenlang nicht ins Zwergenhaus - Corona Verordnung. Keine Ahnung wen wir mit der Gartenarbeit angesteckt hätten.... aber die Behörden ließen nicht mit sich reden.
Jetzt können wir wieder hin. Zum ersten Mal haben wir Greta mitgenommen.

In spring, we were for several weeks not allowed to visit our house - Covid regulations. I have no idea whom we'd infected by garden work.... but the authorities were not cooperative.
Now we can travel there again. For the first time, we took Greta with us.

Sie bewundert die Aussicht aus dem Fenster.

She admires the view from the window.

Wir sehen aus der Küche auf das ganze Tal hinaus.

From the kitchen, we can see across the whole valley.

Mami, ich muss runter! Da sieht es nach Abenteuern aus!

Morgen - jetzt ist es schon ein bisschen spät.
