Der Parkplatzgletscher / The parking lot glacier

Der nächst größere Ort bei Mähring ist Tirschenreuth. Früher wurde dort sehr gutes Porzellan hergestellt, inzwischen ist die Fabrik geschlossen.

From Mähring, the next town is Tirschenreuth. Very fine china used to be produced there. Now, the factory is shut down.

Das Wetter war wunderbar, mit bayerischem Himmel, und in Tirschenreuth ist es etwas wärmer, deshalb gab es dort keinen Schnee.
Bis auf:

The weather was glorious, with a blue and white Bavarian sky. Since Tirschenreuth is not as high up as Mähring, it is always warmer there, and the snow had melted.
Except for:

Mami, da ist ein Gletscher!
Ygritte trägt eine schön warme Jacke, die unsere Natascha mitgebracht hat, als sie einzog.

Mummy, there is a glacier!
Ygritte wears a nice warm vintage jacket. Natascha brought it with her when she moved in.

Äh - ich glaube, hier ist lediglich der ganze Schnee gelandet, den die Stadtreinigung vom Parkplatz geschoben hat.

Well - I believe this is just where all the snow ended when city cleaners cleared the parking lot.

Ach was, Mami! Du hast keine Phantasie.
Für mich ist das ein Gletscher.

No way, Mummy! You're lacking imagination.
To me, this is a glacier.

  1. I have heard it said that the Car park Glacier is a rare and wondrous phenomenon ! How fabulous that Ygritte did find one! She is obviously a child of great imagination which should be encouraged at all costs.

    1. So it's no coincidence she asked today if she can have a typewriter of her own! She plans her first grand novel! What a gifted child.

  2. If she looks hard, she might just find an Ice Age man (or doll) buried in that glacier.

    1. Oh no! Now she asks if we can return to Tirschenreuth, so she can look harder at the glacier!

  3. I believe she's right, it looks very much like a glacier to me!! I hope she has her safety equipment and skis so that she is well prepared to climb and then descend again!

  4. Alas, we forgot the skis! So I had to pick her up and carry her to the car. Poor girl!

  5. As an ex-teacher I love kids with vivid imaginations. Life for them will never be dull!
