Uma

In the last days of 2017, a little waif arrived - with very wild hair.

And this was after a good combing! Poor child. She also needed new elastics, because she was unable to stand.

A thorough wash, argan oil for her hair (thanks for the hint, Sharon!) and some surgery by Dr Neveruschi and Dr Tom, and Uma stands happily in the garden.

She has a ring neck assembly (white neck ring), and her elastic was brown, that would make her 1974. But she also has a rooted part to the crown, two toned hair and detailed eye painting, so her head might be earlier? Or she already had a repair in the past?

But that makes no difference - she is a pretty girl, and she'll find plenty of friends in our house.

  1. Isn't it lovely to give new life and some loving care to these pretty waifs. She looks great now and I love her sweater.

    1. I love this knitting pattern - it is based on the simple cardigan in the 3 Anns book, only it is knitted in rounds in the lower half. This year, I added the front pocket. I'm still trying for its best shape, but I think I'm getting closer!

  2. She's beautiful! A little love and attention works wonders. I'm inclined to believe her neck ring was a later fix. Her eyes look very 1960's to me.

    1. I've read that some blonde Gregors of 1974 were given older heads out of remaining stock. Maybe this happened to some of the girls, too?
She looks very similar to my Mona, who is a 1970 girl.

  3. Uma is a very pretty girl Ursula, I can see why you adopted her despite the initial appearance of her hair. But the argan oil does work a treat, doesn't it....I need to get some more as I was using it on my own hair as well as the dolls and it's all gone now.
I look forward to seeing more of her here on your blog :)

    1. I bid on her on Ebay, having seen only some blurred out of focus photos. But even so I though her eye painting looked very nice. No one else wanted her - so, lucky me!

    1. She certainly likes adventures! She was with us in the GnomeHome on our last trip - and now I realize she was the first girl! Milo helped us choosing, and Notso explored the garden, and all the others only know the photos.
